Item:113381980477I have for sale a genuine WW2 1943 Ships Masthead Lamp in remarkable condition considering it’s age at 85 years and the environment it has previously been exposed to. The lantern measures 30cm high x 20cm wide and weighs 3.4kg. The Lantern has a brass plaque on the front above the lens with MASTHEAD PATT 25A stamped on it (shown on image). There are also references to the date of manufacture on the glass lens and body of the lamp, as shown on the images. My investigations show it was made in Birmingham obviously during the Second World War and likely fitted to a ship of the British or Allied Navy’s / Merchant Fleets. It is made predominantly of steel with brass fittings as shown on the images and it is not painted. It would likely have been painted to protect it from the environment, but this has been removed previously, possibly in anticipation of being refurbished. It is in remarkable condition, with just 1 small dent, some light surface rust and some signs of ageing. Originally it would have had a paraffin or oil lamp burner housed inside, but this has previously been removed and a steel plate fitted inside covering a hole in the base. It is prime for renovation / conversion to a candle lantern (as displayed on image) or to an electric lamp. The lens glass is in excellent condition with neither cracks or chips and it is installed in 2 sections with the split down the centre of the lens. The lantern would be ideal for collectors of WW2 Naval Memorabilia, Professional Restorers, or DIY enthusiasts keen on adding value to the lamp and displaying it or selling it on. The renovated lamp would be ideal in a home, themed shop or public house (ideally The Ship Inn). The candle will accompany the product when sold.Country/Region of Origin:United Kingdom, Primary Material:Steel, Time Period, War:WWII, Object Type:Lamp, Original/Reproduction:Antique Original
